The Horizon Europe project SPEARHEAD brings together the European scientific community to harness high-energy data from space missions and ground-based detectors. In this workshop:
Why is it important?
SPEARHEAD is shaping a new era of data reuse and interoperability in particle physics and astrophysics. The project offers innovative tools and datasets that significantly support the scientific community in solar and space physics, as well as in the new age of space exploration. Specifically, SPEARHEAD provides:
- New datasets from space missions covering, for the first time, the 100–800 MeV energy range — a region that has been largely unexplored by the scientific community until now.
- Catalogs of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs) from Solar Orbiter (SolO), SoHO, and Ulysses missions, offering critical insights into solar activity and its effects.
- Forbush decrease catalogs capturing cosmic ray variations:
- From ground-based neutron monitors
- From Mars-based sensors (MSL/RAD)
- From spaceborne instruments such as SoHO/EPHIN, SolO/HET, Helios/E6, and Wind/3DP
- Open data analysis tools designed for scientific study of the high-energy environment, supporting both robotic and crewed space missions.
Scientific Program
The program includes:
- Scientific and technical presentations, along with focused discussions involving leading European and international research organizations, and representatives from the space industry.
- A dedicated session for pilot users, featuring hands-on evaluation of SPEARHEAD tools.
- Practical hands-on workshops using real SPEARHEAD datasets, involving young researchers and developers.

- ESA, NASA, and others
- New pilot users from a pan-European network of research institutes, universities, and emerging tech teams
