SPEARHEAD presents Solar Orbiter SEP science at EGU2026

Today at the EGU General Assembly 2026, the SPEARHEAD project delivered a presentation focused on Solar Orbiter observations of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs).

The talk was given within the session ST1.3 Solar Orbiter: A new perspective on the Sun and the heliosphere, which showcases the latest scientific results from the Solar Orbiter mission.

Focus on SEP physics

SPEARHEAD’s contribution highlighted new insights into Solar Energetic Particles, high-energy particles accelerated during solar eruptions that play a central role in heliophysics and space weather. Using Solar Orbiter’s unique combination of in-situ measurements and remote sensing, the work contributes to ongoing efforts to better understand particle acceleration and transport in the inner heliosphere.

Advancing heliophysics research

Today’s presentation forms part of the broader EGU2026 programme, where Solar Orbiter science is a key theme. With the spacecraft continuing to explore previously unobserved regions of the Sun, including higher heliographic latitudes, these results provide valuable perspectives on solar activity and its wider impacts.
