High-Energy Solar Physics Course in Turku

2025-05-29

In May 2025, the University of Turku hosted an intensive Master’s-level course, High-energy Particles in the Heliosphere, as part of the Horizon Europe SPEARHEAD project. Over four weeks, students from across Europe joined on-site and online to explore how energetic particles are produced, transported, and observed in the heliosphere.

Led by researchers from the SPEARHEAD consortium, the course featured lectures, hands-on exercises, and simulation work. Topics included particle acceleration at the Sun, space- and ground-based detection methods, cosmic ray modulation, and probabilistic SEP forecasting.

The course offered a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with leading scientists and current research tools. It also supported SPEARHEAD’s mission to train the next generation of space physicists through collaboration, curiosity, and applied learning.
