Open Vacancy at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA)

IAASARS is looking for an expert to work on the “Scientific Analysis” of very high energy particles. Positions’ code: SPEAR1. Preferably this postdoctoral position seeks for candidates with relevant experience in research projects but also recent graduates, to be included in NOA’s research activities, can apply.

Institution: Institute of Astrophysics Astronomy Space Applications and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA)

Activity: Creation of catalogues of high energy Solar Particles (i.e. protons E>100 MEV, electrons E>1 MeV). Implementation of in depth analysis for selected case studies, from the best observed events in the respective data (both in situ and remotely). Contribution to the analysis of related solar, and interplanetary context observations. Synthesis of the overall scientific results. Development of a prediction model for very high energy SEPs (protons E>300 MeV).

Skills: Experience in solar/heliospheric/space physics, programming languages (python, IDL) and tools for data analysis.

Qualification: PhD Degree in Physics

Duration: 18 months, with the possibility of renewal for another 12 months.

Salary: Starting gross salary of 1850/month. To be updated/raised in the renewal depending on experience, education, certifications, skills and performance.

Place of work: IAASARS, National Observatory of Athens, Palaia Penteli, Greece.

Type of contract: Research grant, full time.

On-site presence: To be agreed on the basis of project needs.
