The SPEARHEAD Horizon Europe project is pleased to announce that the lectures of the SPEARHEAD School 2026 are now openly available in SPEARHEAD’s Zenodo repository, in the record “SPEARHEAD School Lectures”: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23012883.
The School took place on 4–8 September 2026 at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), Germany, just before SPEARHEAD Workshop #3. It offered early-career researchers and students hands-on training with SPEARHEAD tools and data, combining lectures with practical exercises, and was offered as an elective module worth 3 ECTS credits.
The repository includes the five School lectures, given by experts from across the SPEARHEAD consortium:
- Introduction to SPEARHEAD and the physics behind it: Athanasios Papaioannou, National Observatory of Athens (NOA)
- From measurements to physical quantities: muons as an example of a useful tool: Bernd Heber, Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU)
- Ground-based measurements: neutron monitors and mini neutron monitors: Alexander Mishev, University of Oulu (UOULU)
- Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs) and the ForbMod model: Mateja Dumbović, Hvar Observatory (OH)
- Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) characterisation: onset times, peak fluxes, fluences and anisotropies: Nina Dresing, University of Turku (UTU)
The material is shared to support its future use and reuse for teaching, training and self-study. With a permanent DOI, the lectures become a lasting, citable resource for students, lecturers and researchers in heliophysics and space weather, well beyond those who joined us in Kiel. They join the SPEARHEAD datasets and catalogues already shared through the SPEARHEAD Zenodo community.
The School & Workshop 3 page also links to the lectures and offers the complete School programme, detailed descriptions of the lectures and hands-on sessions, and preparation guides with the instructions and resources needed to carry out the hands-on exercises.
We warmly thank all lecturers and participants, and CAU for hosting the School.
