The SPEARHEAD Horizon Europe project is pleased to announce that the presentations from SPEARHEAD Workshop #3 are now available online. They can be accessed directly from the Workshop’s agenda on the School & Workshop 3 page.
The Workshop took place on 9–11 September 2026 at the Institute for Experimental and Applied Physics of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), Germany, and online, following the SPEARHEAD School (4–8 September). It brought together researchers, students and stakeholders for invited lectures by leading experts, short contributed presentations and lively discussions on high-energy particles in the heliosphere.
More than 25 presentations are now online, covering the full range of topics discussed in Kiel:
- Particle transport: from theory to space weather, with talks by Nicolas Wijsen (KU Leuven) and Ludwig Klein (Observatoire de Paris), and multi-spacecraft studies of velocity dispersion and counterstreaming electron beams
- Data, tools and catalogues: SOHO/ERNE high-energy data products, the >100 MeV proton catalogue, a combined GOES–SOHO/EPHIN proton dataset, the reanalysis of ESA’s Standard Radiation Environment Monitor, and an overview of SPEARHEAD tools
- Solar Energetic Particle (SEP) observations: measurements of SEPs by Ian Richardson (NASA/GSFC), SEP and X-ray observations, tools for analysing SEP events by Laura Rodriguez-Garcia (ESA), and SEP events in the inner heliosphere
- Forbush decreases and Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs): observations and modelling, Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) evolution and real-time detection onboard spacecraft
- Particle acceleration and Ground Level Enhancements (GLEs): an invited talk by Silvia Dalla (University of Lancashire), the GLEs of Solar Cycle 25, and multi-spacecraft studies of GLE75 and GLE77
- Space weather applications: machine learning prediction of >100 MeV SEP events and the HENON mission for space weather
By making the presentations openly available, SPEARHEAD aims to extend the reach of the Workshop beyond those who attended in Kiel or online, and to offer a lasting resource for the heliophysics and space weather community. The Workshop’s Abstract Book is also available on the same page.
We warmly thank all speakers and participants, and CAU for hosting the final SPEARHEAD Workshop.
